Dear Friends,
This past year marked major milestones for Island Housing Trust. By the time you read this letter, 40 Island families will have moved into their new permanently affordable homes at Meshacket Commons in Edgartown. These homes offer dignity and long-term security for Island families, and promote greater economic stability across the broader Island community.
Last year we also celebrated the groundbreaking of Tackenash Knoll, a landmark neighborhood we are creating in partnership with the Town of Oak Bluffs and Affirmative Investments. Located next to the YMCA, this new neighborhood will provide 60 permanently affordable, year-round rental apartments and represents the largest investment in affordable housing on our Island in over 20 years.
This momentum comes at a meaningful moment: Island Housing Trust’s 20th anniversary. For two decades, we have worked alongside towns, donors, and community members to create homes that are permanently affordable. Over this time we have supported many year-round Island residents, and because our homes are permanently affordable, they will serve many generations to come. This enduring commitment strengthens the long-term resilience of the Island we call home.
In 2025, we engaged in a comprehensive planning process to complete our Vision 2030 Strategic Plan, charting a bold path for the next five years. Vision 2030 calls for the creation of 200 additional permanently affordable homes across all six Island towns, serving a range of income levels while preserving affordability. The plan also deepens our work in advocacy, community engagement, and sustainable fundraising to ensure that our impact endures.
As we celebrate 20 years of service, we are profoundly grateful for your trust and partnership. Your commitment enables us to build not just homes, but dignity, opportunity, and the promise of a thriving, year-round community.
